What’s your story?

It all started in 2014 when I decided to move from Tokyo to Barcelona. Barcelona is a city full of creative people, and just by walking through the streets you can feel it in the air. Living in this city made me want to learn something new, creative, and exciting. So, out of curiosity, I started a free style tapestry course at a local workshop.

This was my first contact with the textile world and I was totally in love. So I decided to enter a local art school, where I specialized in textile art.

It was not until 2018, when I started my final project, that I got very interested in weaving on a floor loom. My research topic was shifu, an ancient Japanese technique of making paper threads and weaving them into cloth. I was lucky enough to meet Sadako Sakurai, who, along with her husband, revived a refined version of this technique that was and still is in danger of disappearing.

This became a very important point in my career, not only because I had contact with the professional world of textile crafts for the first time, but also because I strongly connected with Mrs. Sakurai on a personal level.

She became my reference for how I would like to live my life. Her passion and dedication to work and her honest way of expressing herself seemed so beautiful to me. Also, I just loved her simple and humble personality. My encounter with her and her friends, who are also weavers, inspired me to want to master this craft and produce pieces with my own hands.

Since then I have not stopped weaving. This is how I decided to open my website and start selling my handwoven fabrics in February 2021.

What are your values?

My mission as a weaver is to bring back more handwoven fabrics into our daily lives. My way of doing it is creating articles that accompany you and brighten up the little moments of your everyday life.

There is a Japanese term called "zakka", very difficult to translate, but it refers to "everything and anything that improves your home, your life and your appearance". It especially refers to those carefully made and designed things that bring you happiness and joy in wearing, using or having as decoration.

To put it briefly, "contemporary handwoven zakka" is what I would like to be known for!
