What’s your story?

My story really begins in 2014 at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY where I was so fortunate to be an artist in residence for a year. Through surrounding myself with so many curious minds, skillful hands, and incredible resources, my eyes were opened to the poetics, potentials and processes of the textile medium. I began Absorka because I had a generative and experimental practice and I needed a place for my work to live (outside my own wardrobe and studio). One of the things I love most about working with textiles is that there is so much material literacy that cannot be learned any other way than by simply doing. There is so much trial and error, every piece is a learning process - every time I make something new it is the best thing i've ever made. Absorka is my method for keeping these one-of-a-kind pieces flowing, it has become my reason to create and explore.

What are your values?

I value plant based materials; re-use and recycling, expressive and personal style, and very minute details.
